DSUSD receives funding for after school programs at seventeen schools within our district. The “Dream Believers” (K-5) and “Dream Achievers” (6-8) programs have both academic and an enrichment components meant to align with and support the regular day program. Here are some fast facts about our after school programs.
|
- Programs operate immediately after school until 6pm on every regular school day and a 1 to 20 staff to student ratio must be maintained at all times.
- All staff must meet the minimum requirements of a para- educator for our district.
- A healthy snack is provided each day.
- Funding is supported by State and Federal grants and services up to 84 students at each elementary site and up to 111 students at each middle school site. When fully implemented. The after school program will serve approximately 1500 students
per day.
- Programs are a joint effort between schools, parents, community agencies and collaborative partners.
- Programs consist of an academic component such as tutoring and/or homework assistance in reading/language arts, mathematics, history and social studies, or science and an educational enrichment component such as youth development strategies, recreation and prevention, visual and performing arts, music, physical activity, health/nutrition promotion, and general recreation activities.
