About the Weingart Grant
Current education trends and policies focus on both the use
of data for improving teaching and learning as well as the preparation of our youth
for the 21st Century. Our district currently has the tools necessary for both of
these tasks. In the past we were able to secure several grants for a varied group
of teachers and administrators creating an unintentional differentiation in levels
of technology use.
We have some schools and teachers who are very proficient in the use of technology
and have become leaders and trend setters. There are pockets of teachers who have
mastered the integration of technology at all levels. However, we are in need of
support to train and coach teachers and administrators to use the available tools
and seamlessly integrate technology into their classrooms and schools across the
district; for all schools and teachers. With standardization being essential for
all of our students to have equal access to the best education, this district-wide
project has been developed to fulfill our need. This project will help our district
to integrate technology into daily teaching as aligned by the nationally and internationally
accepted National Educational Technology Standards (NETS).
It is not the goal of this project or of our district to teach technology in isolation
or to have it considered a subject area, but instead to be thought of as providing
tools that are imperative for today’s learning environments.
