DSUSD will recommend qualified (non-credentialed) applicants to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for the issuance of an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Permit. Must have the Basic Skills Requirement(BSR). Any of the following with satisfy the BSR requirement: CBEST, SAT, ACT, or Coursework Option (explained below).

Official Transcripts are only needed if you do not already possess California Teaching Credential or Substitute Permit and if this is the first time you will be applying for an Emergency 30 Day Substitute Permit. The Coursework Option for satisfying the BSR must meet the following: * Earn a grade of "B" or better (B- would be acceptable) * Have been taken at a regionally accredited college or university * Three semester units (or equivalent quarter units) * Been taken for academic credit (earned units) * Be degree applicable (AA degree applicable is OK) * For Reading, be in the subject of critical thinking, literature, philosophy, reading, rhetoric, or textual analysis * For Writing, be in the subject of composition, English, rhetoric, written communications, or writing * For Mathematics, be in the subject of algebra, geometry, mathematics, quantitative reasoning, or statistics

  • Copy of Transcript (Insert a copy of transcript reflecting at least a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree. An official transcript in a sealed envelope reflecting the Bachelor's Degree is required if this is your first time applying for a credential or substitute permit. Do not drop off transcripts; you will be directed when to bring in official transcripts in the sealed envelope. DO NOT OPEN sealed envelope to upload a copy, instead insert a placeholder stating "I will bring in official transcripts")
  • Credential Copy (Insert a copy of your California Credential or Substitute Permit. If you are a Non-credentialed applicant insert a placeholder stating "I will apply for a 30-day substitute permit via DSUSD")
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation (Letters of Recommendation - 3 Letters are required)
  • Resume
