For several years, DSUSD students have competed locally in the Agri-Art Contest put on by Growing Coachella Valley. Desert Sands has eight winners this year including the top prize getter whose artwork has been transformed into a billboard.
At the elementary school level, winners are:
Honorable Mention to Lucinda Zarate, a third grader in Mrs. Dolan’s class at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School.
Third Place and $50 to Magali Orozco Ortiz, a fifth grader in Mrs. Perry’s class at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School.
Second Place and $100 to Mouli Amin, a fifth grade student in Mrs. Kuperstien’s class at George Washington Charter Elementary School.
First Place and $200 to Antonio Coloma II, a fourth grade student in Mrs. Baker’s class at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.
At the middle and high school level:
Honorable Mention Lizbeth Lorenzo an eighth grader in Ms. Nead’s class at Indio Middle School.
Third Place and $200 to Prachi Amin and eighth grader in Ms. Sommaripa’s class at Palm Desert Charter Middle School.
Second Place and $500 to Audrey Hills, an eleventh grader in Ms. Lopez’s class at Palm Desert High School.
First Place and $700 and her artwork displayed on a billboard to Gabrielle Coloma, a seventh grader in Ms. Moore’s class at La Quinta Middle School.
