Each year the California School Board Association invites school districts to nominate a local media representative to be recognized with a Golden Quill Award. The award is presented in recognition of fair, insightful, and accurate reporting on public school news. CSBA notes that the Golden Quill Awards are presented to recognize the outstanding education that journalism plays in increasing the objectives, operations, accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities related to public schools.

Desert Sands is proud to present this award to the host of this year’s education foundation gala and the guy who asks the tough questions - KESQ’s reporter and anchor Peter Daut. 

Peter took to twitter to say a few words, "Honored to receive the Golden Quill Award from the California School Boards Association for my in-depth education reporting. The @desertsandsusd surprised me with it!"
