On behalf of Principal Sarit Saig, Desert Sands Unified School District is proud to announce that three seniors from Palm Desert High School have received Letters of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, recognizing their outstanding performance on the PSAT taken in October 2023.
Students Lyle De La Luna, Daphne Le, and Preston Lee will receive their certificates during the Senior Awards Ceremony scheduled for May 12, 2025.
Approximately 34,000 students nationwide are being honored as Commended Students for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not advance in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship competition, these students ranked among the top 50,000 out of over one million who participated by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
