The Desert Sands Unified School District Spelling Bee was held on January 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Indio High School Performing Arts Center. The event brought together elementary and middle school spellers representing 21 schools across the district and showcased students’ dedication, preparation, and academic confidence.

The District Champion was determined in Round Five, when Ianna Castellano of Desert Ridge Academy correctly spelled paparazzi.

The competition then continued for an additional 31 rounds to determine the alternate. Henry Russell of Palm Desert Charter Middle School earned the Alternate position after correctly spelling tectonic. Henry joined the competition at the last minute when the site winner was unable to attend, making his performance especially commendable.

We also congratulate Camila Rodriguez of Ronald Reagan Elementary School, who earned Runner-Up honors with an impressive showing throughout the competition.

The District extends sincere thanks to our school spelling bee coordinators, district support staff, and the Optimist Club for their continued support of this long-standing academic tradition and for helping make the event a success for students and families.
