Palm Desert High School kicked off the school year with a big win, this time off the scoreboard! On Thursday, August 28, NBC Palm Springs presented its Athlete of the Week honors to two outstanding Aztecs: Jacob Ochoa (Football) and Naomi Plunkett (Flag Football). They each received a check for $250.00!

Athletic Director Estevan Valencia made the moment extra special by hosting the presentation right at the stadium, where teammates and families gathered to cheer on the honorees.

Adding even more excitement, Anthony Caridi, Director for Toyota of the Desert and Honda of the Desert, personally presented the awards. For Caridi, it was a proud full-circle moment, since his own son was named Defensive Player of the Year at Palm Desert High back in 2015. That connection made it all the more meaningful to celebrate Jacob and Naomi as the very first recipients of the Athlete of the Week honors this year.
