This summer, Desert Sands Unified School District was proudly represented at AVID Summer Institute in San Diego and Anaheim, with 125 educators and leaders participating in Communities of Practice (COPs) across three institutes.
Our first San Diego experience brought together many of our site principals and assistant principals, while our second San Diego session included AVID Site Coordinators and elective teachers. Throughout the summer, site teams had opportunities to collaborate, strengthen relationships, and engage in meaningful conversations about their AVID implementation.
A key focus of our site team work was aligning AVID site goals with district goals and Board priorities, ensuring that our work continues to support student success and college and career readiness across DSUSD.

We were also especially proud to see one of our own La Quinta High School students selected to serve as a student leader at AVID Summer Institute. Seeing a DSUSD student contribute, lead, and represent our district in this way was a wonderful reminder that student voice and leadership are at the heart of the work we do.
Together, our educators, leaders, and students continue to build a strong AVID community focused on creating opportunities and pathways for every student.
