Drones, Dreams, and Diplomas at Shadow Hills!

Talk about ending the school year on a high note!

As the Shadow Hills High School Class of 2026 celebrated their graduation, the night sky came alive with more than 300 synchronized drones, performing a breathtaking 10-minute aerial show. The dazzling display replaced the traditional fireworks finale and left graduates, families, and staff looking skyward in awe.

But the drone show wasn't just a spectacular sendoff, it was also a sneak peek at an exciting new opportunity coming to DSUSD this fall. The show marked the beginning of training for DSUSD's new student-led outdoor drone show team, set to officially launch in Fall 2026. Once the program takes flight, DSUSD will become just the third school district in the nation to offer a student-led outdoor drone show program, joining trailblazing districts in Colorado and Washington.

To help make it happen, a team of student drone leaders from St. Vrain Valley Schools in Colorado traveled to the Coachella Valley to mentor DSUSD students in drone animation, choreography, and piloting. The experience gave students a firsthand look at the creativity, technology, and teamwork behind producing a large-scale drone show.
