DSUSD is proud to celebrate our very own Superintendent, Dr. Kelly May-Vollmar, who was honored in Sacramento on March 16 as the 2026 “Woman of the Year” for the 47th Assembly District, during Women’s History Month.

Recognized by Assemblymember Gregory Wallis and the California State Assembly, this prestigious honor celebrates women leaders who are making a lasting impact in their communities and Dr. May-Vollmar exemplifies that impact every single day.

Her leadership truly reflects the heart of DSUSD, always putting students first, lifting up our staff, and creating a culture where excellence just feels like the norm. This recognition speaks volumes about her vision and dedication, and it also shines a light on the amazing work happening across our district every single day.

A local celebration was hosted by Assemblyman Wallis with the 2026 Women of Distinction Reception on March 31, at Desert Willow Golf Resort. An extraordinary group of women was honored…leaders whose impact resonates across education, public service, business, advocacy, and beyond. Each was nominated by someone who has witnessed her dedication firsthand, a powerful testament to the influence of strong, compassionate leadership, shaping our community every day.

Dr. May-Vollmar was proudly nominated by Dr. Marcus Wood, who wrote in his nomination, “She has strengthened districtwide leadership capacity, elevated instructional quality, and cultivated a culture rooted in trust, innovation, and shared responsibility. Her leadership has directly contributed to improved student outcomes, staff retention, and organizational coherence across a large and diverse district.”

DSUSD extends congratulations to the outstanding Women of Distinction honorees:  Carrie Allan, Deidre Chetigny, Dr. Terri Ketover, Davis Meyer, Anne Montiglio, Chaya Posner, Katie Slimko-Tuvell, Kate Spates, Lisa Valerio, Nona Watson, and Doria Wilms, each recognized for her unique contributions and commitment to making our communities better.
