The 2nd Annual Co-ed DSUSD Flag Football Tournament & Inaugural GIRLS division was held at Colonel Mitchell Paige Middle School on November 4th. The tournament had approximately 400 players representing 14 Elementary Schools.
The year of 2023, DSUSD expanded their program to have eight schools with an all girls team. This is due to CIF including girl’s flag football as a CIF- sanctioned sport. 80 girls will now train and prepare for Flag Football in High School since they now have an interest and great time learning the sport.
A big thank you was given to Coach Mo Streety and Johnathan Franklin from the LA Rams organization as they partnered with Desert Sands Expanded Learning Opportunity Program to wear LA Rams Uniforms. The LA Rams Organization will also provide DSUSD students with an upcoming Youth Clinic for Flag Football. In addition, the LA Rams provided the Champions in each division in the tournament a Championship hat. A LA Rams cheerleader was also present for photo opportunities throughout the day.
The results of the 2nd Annual Co-ed DSUSD Flag Football Tournament & Inaugural GIRLS division were; Team A Champions: Oliphant Owls, Runner-up: Roosevelt Rams. Team B Champions: Reagan Regal Eagles, Runner- up: Oliphant Owls. Winning the Girl’s Division Inaugural Champions: Dr. Carreon Academy Comets, Runner- up: Oliphant Owls.
