The Shadow Hills Girls Wrestling Team started a program called, “Champions Read” four years ago, that distributes two books, two educational magazines, and a stuffed animal to elementary students. In addition to the materials, the girls wrestling team spreads out among classrooms to read to the students. The program started thanks to Coach Jody Davis, who encourages students to expand their horizons and get more involved in reading. He also believes reading is the reason that Shadow Hills has kept the highest GPA in Riverside County for the last three out of four years.
To date the team has donated nearly $100,000 in books and stuffed animals.
The Champions Read program was at Amelia Earhart Elementary in the morning of February 7, 2024 to pass out books, stuffed animals, and read to the classrooms.
Thank you to SHHS Athletics Assistant Richard Romo Jr for the submission.
