LBJ and Sandy Hook Promise

The Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is an organization with the mission to stop school shootings and create a culture that prevents violence. One of our very own schools, Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary, is one of the schools who have adopted the SHP program. The free program teaches students and adults how to identify at-risk behaviors and intervene to get help. There are teachings made for different grade levels.

One of the leaders of the SHP program is Lexi Zanovitch, a second grade teacher at LBJ. She told News Channel 3, "We really want to focus on social isolation, anti-bullying, and to say something if someone is in need of any help," said Zanovitch. "[The program] has really changed the dynamic and just the energy of the school, how everybody's come together as a community to watch out for one another."

The Sandy Hook Promise program not only promotes safety in schools, but also a hope for a safer future.

Every year, the Sandy Hook Promise gives our "Say Something" Week Awards. This year, LBJ was one out of six schools who received this award.

Here at DSUSD we are extremely about safety in schools. So we are proud of LBJ, not just for the award they received, but also for the continuous impact they are having in the kids lives and the community.
